Creative Critical Reflection

For my next reflection question I decided to focus more on how I made great progress throughout the creation on this project.

I answered the question . . .

“How did your production skills develop throughout the project?”

I decided to explain my answer to this question through a podcast episode. I included the podcast and the transcript below.

Hey guys! Welcome to the first episode of TalkingTravelTropical. Today I am excited to discuss the many ways in which my production skills greatly improved and developed through working on my project. Prior to creating my project I had no ideas to how I could make my vision come to life and digitally create the magazine of my dreams. Through this project I was able to learn skills needed to use the programs needed to piece together a magazine. I also improved my photography and creativity skills throughout this process.

The research and planning aspect of this creative process played a large role in improving my personal skills. As I researched what steps where need to create different aspects of a magazine, I was able to create a plan of action. My plan is one of the virtual reasons I was able to create my project in the time period given. Through this research I was also able to take inspiration from other popular travel magazines and use aspects of them that I liked, by integrating these components into my very own magazine. I used this research to also create the layout of my magazine and make templates of what I envisioned the final product to look like.

I think it’s also important to note that my photography skills most definitely improved throughout the creation of Travel Tropical. I previously did not consider certain important aspects when taking a photo, such as lighting and angles. However, after diligently practicing taking photos and researching how lighting and angling can effect the end result, I was able to improve my skills. Additionally, when taking photos of Puerto Rico for my magazine, I ensured to take many pictures as to have choices. And while I took my pictures on a cell phone, I was able to edit them slightly to improve the pictures quality.

My skills also improved in the use of Adobe software. In order to piece together my magazine, I relied heavily on Adobe InDesign, which I had never used previously. I knew that I needed to be skilled in this platform in order to produce an adequate magazine, which is I practiced using the tools on the software and watched videos explaining how to design my product on InDesign. By using this software I was able to create the first issue of my magazine and make the final product appear to be of professional quality.

Overall, I am grateful I had the opportunity to create this magazine as it widened my knowledge on the creative and technical aspects of the process and developed my photography and InDesign skills.
